Borrowing Laptops

The James C. Kirkpatrick Library provides a laptop loan service to currently enrolled students at the University of Central Missouri. This service is partially funded by student technology fees.

  • Only currently enrolled student may borrow laptops from the library front desk.
  • Laptops are loaned on a first-come, first-serve basis for a period of 7 consecutive days.
  • Please allow at least 10 - 15 minutes to complete the check-out process.
  • Each student may check out only one computer at a time.
  • Laptops will not be loaned between semesters due to maintenance and inventory requirements.

Returning Laptops

  • The due date for a laptop (including peripherals & accessories) is based on the time it was originally checked out. For example, if the laptop was checked out on Monday at 1:00 PM, it will be due next Monday at 1:00 PM.
  • Please remain until the check-in transaction is completed.
  • Equipment, including all peripherals and accessories, must be returned with the laptop.
  • You must wait 24-hours before you can check-out another laptop.

Laptop Late Fees & Fines

  • A late fee of $2 per hour will be charged if you do not return the laptop, with peripherals and accessories, on time. The maximum late fee is $60.
  • Replacement costs of lost or damaged laptop accessories are available at the Replace Cost Charges page.
  • The billing charge for an unreturned laptop is $100.
  • Lost or damaged peripheral devices will be charged at the following rates:
    • Mouse: $10
    • Power cord: $10
    • Ethernet cable: $10
    • Phone cable: $10

Laptop Technology Notice

  • The Library limits technical support to ensuring the prepared system on the laptop is operational.
  • Students take full responsibility for the compatibility of any software they may load on a Library laptop.
  • Files saved or software downloaded to a laptop are deleted upon return.
