Checking Out Materials - All patrons must present their current UCM ID card or official photo identification, i.e., driver's license, military ID, passport, etc. to check out materials from the James C. Kirkpatrick Library.
Renewals - Most library materials check outs can be renewed unless a Hold/Recall has been placed on the material. However, Course Reserves material and laptops cannot be renewed. Renewals may be done through:
Special Collections materials - Special Collections items may only be accessed by appointment, Monday - Friday from 8 am through 5 pm. To make an appointment, use the Special Collections Contact Form. More information is available on the UCM Special Collections Guide.

Book drops - Are located at the Library Services Desk as well as outside the library building.
The drive-up book drop is located on the east side of the building, next to the loading dock doors.
The walk-up book drop is located on the west side of the building, on the north wing, behind the stone pillar.

Item Holds - If a needed item is currently checked out, you have several options on accessing the material needed:
A HOLD cannot be placed on Course Reserve materials.
If an item cannot be found on the shelves, a search can be placed on the item. If you need the material right away, Library Services Desk staff can change the status of the item so that you can request the item through MOBIUS or Interlibrary Loan.
