There is a difference in media bias and fake news. Media bias might look like not including the whole picture in a story, or omitting facts that cast an aspect in a negative light and highlighting others. Media bias can cause the spread of misinformation. Fake news is specifically untrue and seeks to spread disinformation.

Tips for Spotting Fake News

Examine the site's URL for oddities
If it seems like a joke, it probably is
Check the authorship
Search for the same story coming from other sources
Scan for spelling/grammatical errors
Scan for language that deals heavily in superlatives and extreme figures of speech
Check all links
