JCKL Collection Development / Collection Management and Maintenance

This guide provides information on the Collection Development Policy and Collection Management/Maintenance project(s) currently underway at JCKL.

About JCKL Digital

JCKL Digital is the institutional repository of the University of Central Missouri. It contains scholarly work produced all or in part by UCM faculty, staff, and students, as well as departmental research publications.

UCM researchers who add their scholarly work to JCKL Digital increase their visibility and impact by making their scholarship openly available to a global audience, as well as ensuring the long-term preservation of the materials. Our team is ready to assist with depositing materials into the repository, allowing you to focus on teaching, service, and research.

If you have questions about adding materials to JCKL Digital or any other questions about the repository, please contact Nate Beyerink, Assessment and Acquisitions Librarian, at beyerink@ucmo.edu.

Services

We have services to help UCM scholars and departments deposit materials in JCKL Digital:

  • To make this process as easy as possible, we will deposit eligible materials into JCKL Digital on your behalf. See Depositing Materials in JCKL Digital for specific information about how you can share materials in the repository.
  • Give presentations for departmental or research groups about how their work can be made available to a worldwide audience in JCKL Digital.

Visibility

Open Access
JCKL Digital strives to provide open and public access to all content in the repository. For exceptions, see Embargoes and Delayed Access.

Permanent Links
All items in JCKL Digital are assigned stable URLs that should never change and can be used whenever the work is cited.

Accessibility

Works created after April 2025 are required to incorporate accessibility features in accordance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. For older materials, an accessible version of the scholarly materials in JCKL Digital will be made available upon request. Please contact us to request that the document be made available in an accessible format.

Preservation and Access

Preservation
JCKL uses standard data management practices to protect items stored in JCKL Digital. The repository is backed up regularly and is kept secure against deletion or unauthorized modification.

Access
JCKL ensures that items deposited in JCKL Digital will remain retrievable from the repository in the future.

Preferred file formats
Since file formats change and evolve over time, older file formats in JCKL Digital records may not be able to be read by modern software. In general, files created with open or non-proprietary software offer the greatest hopes for long-term usability. More information regarding compatible file formats is available on the Depositing Materials in JCKL Digital page.

If you need assistance in choosing the appropriate file formats for your content or data so that they can be used in the long term, please contact us.

Historical Context

Materials in JCKL Digital reflect the attitudes of the people, period, or context in which they were created. Certain images, words, terms, or descriptions may be offensive, culturally insensitive, or considered inappropriate today. These items do not represent the views of the James C. Kirkpatrick Library or the University of Central Missouri.
