Zotero

Manual Entry

Resources can be added to Zotero in several ways.  First, users can simply manually enter resources.  You will not likely use this method, but it is worth exploring because you will learn how the records are structured.  To add a source, click the correct icon above the middle pane.  A drop down menu will appear with the different source types.

The right pane will then display the field for that source type.  You can now manually type in the needed information.  Be sure that spelling and format are correct!

Save from the Web

Using the Zotero Connector with your browser, you can save sources into your Zotero library.  Zotero can save screen shots of website and full text pdf files of articles.  If the article pdf is freely available, Zotero will likely download it automatically, but in some cases, the pdf will have to be loaded manually.

When you are navigating the webpage or searching databases, Zotero is keeping track of what is on the page.  The icon next to the URL indicates what Zotero can save.  In this instance, Zotero is indicating that a result list from Google Scholar is on the page.

Clicking on the yellow file folder will open a pane where you can select the articles that you want to save.  Click OK and the articles will be placed in Zotero (note: the desktop Zotero app must be running or your online Zotero account must be configured to save from the web).
