When looking for academic books or book chapters, you can save time by starting in one of the library’s most comprehensive ebook databases, Ebook Central. The interface of the database mimics the library’s main search bar, so you can easily enter a book title or keyword to find relevant books or book chapters with full text availability directly from the database. Ebook Central is particularly helpful for returning texts that are required reading as many textbooks are included.

The search interface includes a browsable subject list if you’re interested in exploring books on particular academic subjects and a keyword search with an easy-to-use filter sidebar. This search also includes tabs for both Book Results to see full ebooks matching your search and a Chapter Results search to see the Top 20 chapters your search term is found in. This search is especially helpful for research, helping you to see the number of specific mentions of your search term within a given book chapter, similar to tracing terms in a scholarly article’s bibliography.
Faculty can make use of the Bookshelf feature, creating lists for students with selected titles for their course and sharing with a permalink. With the plethora of academic resources available in this database, faculty may be able to provide most of their course texts to students here, saving them hundreds on textbook costs.
