Statistical Abstracts

The Statistical Abstracts of the United States is a staple of the library reference desk, now in digital format. The Abstracts allow users to search over 1,400 indexed tables of statistics compiled by the United States government and other organizations. The database contains the Abstracts from 2013-2022, but statistical tables often contain data from decades past.

The Abstracts contain data on the economy, health, crime, agriculture, and poverty. You can find anything from the number of Broadway shows produced in a year to the number of employees at food service and drinking establishments. A hidden gem in the Abstracts is the twenty-page Guide to Statistical Sources which presents links to federal and state agencies and organizations that compile statistics. International statistical sources are also listed. Search for statistical data with keywords or browse the table of contents. Results can be limited by year, by the organization that provided the data, and the statistical tables can be downloaded in PDF or Excel format.

Click to access The Statistical Abstracts of the United States or visit the A to Z Database List and search for “statistical abstracts.”
