MGT 4357: Organizational Policy & Strategy

Step 1 - Determine basic info about your company

1.  Determine if your company is public or privately held company.

  • Public companies are required by law to disclose information, so general information is easier to locate about a public company.
  • Private companies are not required to disclose information -- your best resource may be to contact the company!

2.  The links below take you to resources that can identify the ticker symbol, full company name, DUNS code, SIC code, NAICS code and other company identifiers.  You will need to type the name of your company and hit search.  Look through the results until you find what you are looking for.  Don't be afraid to drill-down into the data!

3.  Use the company information you find to determine if you are researching a parent company or a subsidiary.

4.  Use the company information you find to determine if your company is domestic or international?  If international, what geographic area (Asia, Europe, etc.)?

5.  Remember -- when searching you may need to consider alternate spellings and mis-spellings.  Someone entered this information and typos do occur.  For example -- should you search Wal-Mart, WalMart, Wal Mart?  Is there a possibility that the company name could be mis-spelled, such as Wall Mart?
