Welcome to the Library Research Guide for Counselor Education. This guide will help you to find useful resources as you explore the field of Counseling. It will also provide accurate, reliable sources as you write your research papers or projects.

Searching the Library Catalog

To begin your search at library.ucmo.edu, select the most important 2-3 terms related to your topic.  Put the word AND between each new term to search for all words together.

education AND behavior

Use quotation marks ( "  " ) around phrases of two or more words that need to be kept together

"counselor education" AND "behavior analysis"

Use an asterisk (*) to find multiple endings of one word. For example, educat* for education, educate, educators, etc.

Finding Books

Location of Materials

All titles listed in this guide are located in the James C. Kirkpatrick Library at UCM's Main Campus in Warrensburg. Materials can be requested via the library website to be delivered to the MIC campus as well.

Call Numbers

Call numbers are groups of numbers and/or letters that classify library items by subject. Items are arranged on bookshelves by call number. The main collection of the James C. Kirkpatrick uses Call Numbers in the Library of Congress classification system

Library of Congress Subject Headings to Know (Main Collection)

Books on educational topics primarily fall into the L classification, found in the main collection. However, there are a number of additional subject headings for Counselor Education.
