GenderWatch is a full text database that goes beyond the mainstream to provide access to academic and scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, regional publications, books, and pamphlets. It contains over 219,000 full text articles from scholarly and popular sources and more than 250 titles from academic, radical, community and independent presses. Users will find essential titles such as Off Our Backs and Transgender Tapestry, as well as international titles such as Sister Namibia and the Australian Feminist Law Journal, along with community newspapers such as Out & About and the Windy City Times. With archival material as far back as the 1970s, GenderWatch provides an important historical perspective of the evolution of the women’s movement and changes in gender roles.
The database provides interdisciplinary coverage that supports research from both male and female perspectives on a broad range of issues. It supports research on subjects that are uniquely central to women’s lives, including family, childbirth, birth control, domestic abuse, body image, and societal roles. It also provides access to sources that reveal the impact of gender and gender roles on the arts, popular culture, media, business, and work. It enhances research in gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues by providing easy access to full text authoritative sources. The material is regularly updated to cover recent journal articles as well as contemporary publications. GenderWatch also provides indexing to book reviews, conference proceedings, and government documents.
