With the emergence of open access journals, the opportunities for publishing your research have increased dramatically. Unfortunately, the risk of dealing with a predatory publisher has grown as well. Cabell’s Directory can help you navigate these new opportunities and challenges.
Cabell’s profiles over 12,000 journals in eighteen different disciplines. The directory covers journals in education, business, health, psychology, and sciences such as biology and chemistry. Each profile provides a description of the research published in the journal along with a link to the journal website. Other information includes acceptance rates, suggested article length, required style, peer review process, and typical time to review submissions.
Cabell’s also provides metrics on the impact of the journal. The Altmetric Reports measure the journal’s online impact. The number of mentions in social media and websites are compiled and an average number of mentions per article is calculated. The Cabell’s Classification Index measures the impact of the journal in different academic disciplines and topics.
Cabell’s also provides a list of over 17,000 journals that reviewers have deemed to be potentially predatory. Analysts use 60+ behavioral indicators to determine whether a journal is a potential predatory publication. The journal's violations are listed and a website link is provided so users can investigate the journal. For a list of the latest criteria used to evaluate journals, click here.
