In this guide, you will find tips and resources to help you complete the EDFL 4212 Journal Review Assignment. Students will be asked review discipline-specific professional journals for articles pertaining to secondary literacy in their teaching field. The reviews will consist of summary and classroom application discussions among colleagues from the same or similar content areas in the course.
The library has access to many discipline-specific journals you can browse for articles related to literacy within your discipline. You can find many examples by navigating to the next tab.
For journals that the library does not have a subscription to, you can browse issues using Google Scholar and request articles for free using the Interlibrary Loan service.
You can search for articles by journal in Google Scholar by entering the journal name and any keyword terms related to your topic idea. Make sure you are signed in to your UCM account on Google Scholar and have settings updated to include our Library Links. A tutorial on how to update this is available on the Google Scholar Guide.
For discipline-specific journals not available through the library, you can search for articles using Google Scholar and make requests for specific articles through our free Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service. From Google Scholar, click on the arrows below a result to Request through UCM or go directly to the ILL Portal to make a request. Digital articles are typically available in about one week.
