The Black Studies Center provides easy access to a broad range of sources that support interdisciplinary research. The database includes scholarly articles, primary source documents, books, and multimedia materials such as photographs, videos, and music recordings. Specialized sources include Black Abolitionist Papers, Black Historical Newspapers, Ethnic NewsWatch, and dozens of journals focusing on African American studies. These collections contain thousands of additional journal articles and other materials related to Black history, culture, and experiences. This allows you to explore topics from multiple perspectives from reputable publishers and archives so you can be sure of their reliability and accuracy.

Journal articles, essays, and newspaper reports support research in history, sociology, anthropology, literature, music, and art.  Primary source documents, scholarly articles, and multimedia materials cover the history and legacy of slavery and the abolitionist movement, including materials related to the transatlantic slave trade and slavery in the Americas and include materials all the way to the civil rights era of the 1960s and 1970s along with sources related to activism, social justice, and equality   Documents also explore the experience of African diaspora communities from around the world, including in the Americas, Europe, and the Caribbean.  Additional materials discuss the contributions of Black writers, artists, and musicians and include contemporary sources such as scholarly articles, news articles, and multimedia materials related to current events and ongoing research in the field of Black Studies.

The database features a user-friendly interface that makes it easy for researchers to search for and access relevant materials from a single search box. Users can search by keyword, subject, author, or publication type, and results can be filtered by date, language, or source. Results are arranged by resource type, so you can easily see which sources are journal articles, newspaper reports, essays, audio video material, and reference material. There are many timelines in the reference section that place these events in chronological order. This provides users with access to a large amount of relevant information in one place, eliminating the need to search multiple sources for materials.
