Required Exams for Missouri Educators

In this section, you'll find information about required tests for educators, such as the Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA). Missouri requirements for entry into educator preparation programs and for certification have changed substantially in the last few years and continue to evolve. The assessments are part of the Missouri Educator Gateway Assessments (MEGA) program.

Certification Requirements

The Missouri State Board of Education requires that candidates seeking entry into undergraduate professional education programs in Missouri colleges and universities pass the Missouri General Education Assesssment (MoGEA).

  • Reading Comprehension and Interpretation
  • Mathematics
  • Writing

Missouri Content Area Exams are exit assessments designed to measure the content necessary for teachers, counselors, librarians, principals and superintendents. The exit assessments must be aligned with state and national standards for school and/or district leaders.
