Open access journals often charge a publication fee or article processing fee. Be aware of this charge before choosing to publish in an open access journal. For profit publishers also have open access journals; again, there is a fee. Institutions sometimes pay the fee for researchers.
Unethical publishers may also publish open access journals. For a list of these predatory (unethical) publishers, see the list maintained by Beall. Jeffrey Beall is a tenured librarian at Auraria Library, University of Colorado, Denver.
